More rain and more ride info

If they can suspend the World Series for rain, I guess I can cancel the Tuesday ride because of it. The next ride is tomorrow at 1pm. There is also a ride Thursday at 3:30pm and the Saturday ride moves to 9am this weekend.

Doesn't look good

The forecast is showing fog and rain so we are going to skip the Saturday morning ride this week. Monday's ride will roll at 5:30pm weather permitting. Good luck to everyone on the MS150 this morning.

Nor'easter Nastiness

Looks like it's going to be dangerously windy with dark skies and likely some rain. Combine that with the road work they are doing on Route 45 and we have a mess. My practical side is coming out and telling me that it just may not be safe to ride tonight. So as official Mother Hen, or whatever ya wanna call me now, I am choosing to cancel the ride tonight.

If it's nice on Saturday morning, we will roll out at 8am. The next 2 night rides (9/29 and 10/2) will start at 5:30pm as we are rapidly losing our daylight. Sorry...I know this makes you sad but it is what it is...see you soon.

We beat the rain!!

Miracle of all miracles, with fender on and rain jacket in pocket, we completed the Saturday loop without a drop of rain. There was almost no wind, either, but the air was so thick that my jersey must have weighed 5 pounds when I got home. See you soon!

We're riding

Looks like we will be able to fit our ride in before the rain. We are going to give it a go.

Rain on the 4th

As I stand on my deck at 7:55, it is raining. The radar doesn't look good either so we are going to cancel the holiday 50 mile ride. Keep checking the weather for tomorrow, we hope to get in our regular Saturday morning ride.

Sunday mtn and Saturday road ride update

The Sunday mountain bike ride has been canceled for the foreseeable future. The trails are littered with downed trees and we haven't had any time to get back there to clean them up. In addition, the spring weather has been very wet and the trails don't need us on them. Thanks for helping us to Leave No Trace.

The Saturday D ride has been postponed until May. The cooler weather probably wasn't the best time for us to get this ride started. Stay tuned to the website, email and blog for more info on the new start date.

The Renewed Action Wheels...

Have you seen the new AW?! Our store remodel is almost complete and things are looking pretty bright and cheery. Next time you are in the neighborhood be sure to stop in, say hi, and check out our huge selection of women's specific gear, new 2008 helmets, shoes , jerseys, bibs, saddles, ZIPP wheels and some of the hottest bikes of the year! Oh yeah, we also have limited quantities of SRAM Red in stock...
Stay tuned for info regarding our huge remodel celebration in early May!

650B Mtn Wheels on an FSR...

The answer to the question almost no one is asking is - YES! You can run 650B mtn wheels on an 08 Specialized Safire Expert FSR...

But why would you want to?...Unless you've been living under a rock you've heard how 29" wheels smooth out the trails and make getting over obstacles easier; but you've probably also heard that fitting smaller size riders can be tough...enter 650B wheels (or 27.5") which offer many of the same benefits without requiring radically different frame geometries...but who needs ANOTHER frame design?!

Well, what if 650B's could be used on an existing 26" frame...will they fit? Would there be any benefit?

The answer to the first question is yes, (at least some of the time) they will fit some 26" frames...the pictures show Patty's Safire Expert set up with 650B's and while the fit is tight they do clear.

Benefits? Stay tuned, we'll have a report once she has a few rides on them...

Another one bites the dust

Wind speed is 24 mph with gusts up to 34 mph. We are going to err on the side of caution (as my mother would say) and cancel the 6pm road ride. (Thursday 3/20) Join us tomorrow morning at 9am for a Good Friday 50 miler. Bring plenty of water and energy food as there are no convenience stores on this loop.

Mountain ride doomed again

More rain and lots of downed trees have me canceling the weekend mountain ride, again. Easter weekend is also a no-go. Looks like it might be summer before we get back into the woods. Stay tuned...

Saturday, March 8, 2008

Weekend rides canceled, see you Monday

The threat of thunderstorms will keep us off the road today. The rain from yesterday will prevent us from playing in the woods tomorrow. On the upside, Daylight Saving Time is Sunday and we will gain some evening sunlight. Roadies should join us Monday night at 6pm for as many miles as we can fit in before dusk. There will be two groups and the average paces will be 13-15 (that's our C group) and 15-17 (the Bs) to start the season. Remember that it is March and arms and legs will need to be covered as the evening temperatures will still be cool. Hope to see you then.

Leave no trace

Gloucester County College is still a bit mushy so I am canceling the beginner mountain bike ride today. The last time I rode there, it had been dry for days and the trails were still a mess. I don't want to take people out in those conditions as it is damaging to the trails and potentially dangerous to the riders. Thanks for your understanding.

Floored!

Getting closer...I just can't wait...

The Wide View...

Our good friend Anthony was kind enough to stop by and give us a few wide angle update shots as the new stucco front goes up...

No Tuesday Morning Ride...

Rain in the forecast, no Tuesday Morning Ride...seeya Saturday.

Sometimes It's The Little Things...

I can't remember how many times someone has jokingly said "you should get an automatic door so I can get my bike through the front easier..." Well, we did and it's amazing the difference a little thing like that makes...no more struggling to hold both doors open, no more pedals banging on the glass, no more rear wheels caught in closing doors...nice.

Friday, February 22, 2008

Coming along nicely

Yesterday saw a flurry of activity at the shop...paint was going on the new walls, more lights going up (and getting lit,) new slatwall installed and the front door canopy went up...and we still managed to get Al out the door on his brand new S-Works Tarmac SL...whew!

Today should be more of the same, with more lights, the automatic (yeah baby!) door going in and the floor beginning to get laid down...

Monday, February 18, 2008

Should I stay or should I go?

The weather channels, radar, etc. are all showing different predictions for today's weather. It's not raining at my house and it is over 60 degrees, so I think we are going to give it a go. Of course, I'll be bringing my fender just in case.

Transition Comp...

Well, I was going to post a pic of the first Specialized Transition Comp we received...but it went home with its happy new owner after being in stock for a scant 5 hours or so...we can only hope that more are on the way soon!

Tuesday, February 12, 2008

Too cold...

It's only going to be 20 (feeling like 17) at 9am. So the Tuesday morning road ride has been canceled. Sorry...

Sunday, February 10, 2008

Drywall going up...

Drywall is in and lights are on the way to being lit! It's getting messy but the changes are exciting...

Tuesday, February 5, 2008

Windoze...

Our new windows are in, as the progress continues...next up, new lights and slatwall...

Saturday, February 2, 2008

Beginner clinic canceled

Once again, we've had wind and rain storms that left the trails a mess. In true IMBA style, we will obey the rules of the trail and "leave no trace". Plan to attend the next beginner's clinic on March 2nd. Thank you for your understanding.

Progress...

...being made every day...

So what's this all about?

This! (I figure the shop should look like this in a day or 2, right? Right?)

Yes, it's cold...

The destruction...oops, I mean construction, continues...

And yes, we are open during all this...if the front door is blocked just head around to the side door.

Our Remodel Is Underway!

Every day that passes has the store looking very different...it's already getting hard to remember what things used to look like just a week ago...

We'll post a pic or 2 a day so you can see the progress...and remember, it might not look too pretty at the moment, but we are open for business during construction!

Sunday, January 20, 2008

Tuesday, instead??

We're taking a shot at adding a new weekly ride. If you are free, join us Tuesday morning at 9am for a 30 mile loop through scenic South Jersey. Remember to check the Blog Tuesday morning to see if we have canceled for cold or precipitation.

Too c-c-cold to ride

Although we rode in the woods today and the windchill was 7 degrees...we are taking the smart route for Monday and canceling the Martin Luther King Day ride. Way too cold for the road. Enjoy the day and remember to honor Dr. King through some form of service.

Sunday, January 13, 2008

Too much rain, try alternate ride locations

I'm sick of having to say this but I have to cancel another GCC mountain ride due to flooding rains that we had on Friday. The trails hold water there and we don't want to do irreparable damage to them by riding when we shouldn't. Camden County College has a nice trail system that is about 7 miles long now and the trail composition is kind of sandy. That means it drains well and is even better after rain. There is no organized ride but if you are looking for a spot to ride when GCC is under water, this would be a really nice choice.

More rain 1.6.08

Didn't know we had rain in the forecast but it rained here overnight and I feel forced to cancel yet another mtn ride. The beginner ride will meet again on the first Sunday in February. For you roadies, we are going to have a bonus ride this week because the weather looks so good. Join us Tuesday morning at 9am at the shop for a 30 mile loop.

Sunday, December 30, 2007

Another ride canceled

Our extremely wet weather has forced me to cancel yet another mountain ride at GCC. The trails woud be less safe and we risk the chance of doing permanent damage to the trail system by riding them when they are so muddy. Remember the IMBA rule of the trail "Leave No Trace". Thanks and I hope to see you next weekend for the monthly beginner ride.

Saturday, December 22, 2007

Trail repair instead of mountain ride 12/23

At Gloucester County College, the recent rain and wind storms have downed a lot of trees both large and small. Since the trails are not in good condition, we're going to try to clean them up a bit instead of riding this Sunday 12/23. Grab your work gloves, anything that can trim back branches and a rake or two and join us for some clean up in the woods. Hope to see you at 9am in the parking lot by the tennis courts.

Saturday, December 8, 2007

Ride cancellation

Due to inclement weather, we are cancelling the Saturday and Sunday rides this weekend. Both the road and the woods will be a mess to ride in these conditions. See you Monday night at 6pm at the shop for our clinic on Core Workouts and Stability Training.

Wednesday, December 5, 2007

The Transition Has Arrived!

One of the most anticipated bikes of 2008 has arrived at Action Wheels...the all new Specialized S-Works Transition. Be sure to check it out at the shop...and if you've been thinking about one, don't wait too long...these guys are in very short supply!

Sunday, December 2, 2007

Mountain ride

Due to the "wintry mix" that is falling from the sky this morning, I am canceling the beginner's mountain clinic at Gloucester County College. Next weekend, it will be a regular ride - intermediate level - at 9am at GCC. The beginner's clinics will be the first Sunday of every month and all others will be intermediate rides.

Remember to wish Ronny a Happy 50th Birthday when you see him since we won't be riding with him on his birthday.

Tuesday, November 27, 2007

Stop by the shop to check out the menu of offerings and sign up to personalize your steed.
