Sunday mtn and Saturday road ride update

The Sunday mountain bike ride has been canceled for the foreseeable future. The trails are littered with downed trees and we haven't had any time to get back there to clean them up. In addition, the spring weather has been very wet and the trails don't need us on them. Thanks for helping us to Leave No Trace.

The Saturday D ride has been postponed until May. The cooler weather probably wasn't the best time for us to get this ride started. Stay tuned to the website, email and blog for more info on the new start date.

650B Mtn Wheels on an FSR...

The answer to the question almost no one is asking is - YES! You can run 650B mtn wheels on an 08 Specialized Safire Expert FSR...

But why would you want to?...Unless you've been living under a rock you've heard how 29" wheels smooth out the trails and make getting over obstacles easier; but you've probably also heard that fitting smaller size riders can be tough...enter 650B wheels (or 27.5") which offer many of the same benefits without requiring radically different frame geometries...but who needs ANOTHER frame design?!

Well, what if 650B's could be used on an existing 26" frame...will they fit? Would there be any benefit?

The answer to the first question is yes, (at least some of the time) they will fit some 26" frames...the pictures show Patty's Safire Expert set up with 650B's and while the fit is tight they do clear.

Benefits? Stay tuned, we'll have a report once she has a few rides on them...

Another one bites the dust

Wind speed is 24 mph with gusts up to 34 mph. We are going to err on the side of caution (as my mother would say) and cancel the 6pm road ride. (Thursday 3/20) Join us tomorrow morning at 9am for a Good Friday 50 miler. Bring plenty of water and energy food as there are no convenience stores on this loop.

Mountain ride doomed again

More rain and lots of downed trees have me canceling the weekend mountain ride, again. Easter weekend is also a no-go. Looks like it might be summer before we get back into the woods. Stay tuned...

Weekend rides canceled, see you Monday

The threat of thunderstorms will keep us off the road today. The rain from yesterday will prevent us from playing in the woods tomorrow. On the upside, Daylight Saving Time is Sunday and we will gain some evening sunlight. Roadies should join us Monday night at 6pm for as many miles as we can fit in before dusk. There will be two groups and the average paces will be 13-15 (that's our C group) and 15-17 (the Bs) to start the season. Remember that it is March and arms and legs will need to be covered as the evening temperatures will still be cool. Hope to see you then.

Leave no trace

Gloucester County College is still a bit mushy so I am canceling the beginner mountain bike ride today. The last time I rode there, it had been dry for days and the trails were still a mess. I don't want to take people out in those conditions as it is damaging to the trails and potentially dangerous to the riders. Thanks for your understanding.
