Ride canceled

Sorry kids- the extra wet holiday week has led us to pull the plug on the Tuesday night mountain bike ride. We will hopefully see less precipitation in the coming days and New Year. Stay tuned to our shop email and Blog for current ride info.

More rain

With an 80% chance of rain in the forecast, I really have no choice but to cancel the Sunday morning mountain bike rides. If it was warmer out, I might take a chance on it not being accurate and trying to get the rides in. But with the cold temps, no one will be happy if we are mid-ride and it starts to come down. Thanks for understanding.

Wind chill and woods rides

The "Feels Like" temperature is going to be about 20 degrees at 9am this morning, so we are canceling the Saturday morning road ride. Looks like it will be a bit warmer this afternoon, so get your to-do list done this morning and fit a ride in later today.

Join me in the woods at Brandywine tomorrow morning, on the dirt at 9am, for a 2 hour intermediate mountain ride. It's a little rocky and there is a lot of climbing. Find us by taking the Commodore Barry Bridge to 95S, to 495S, to the exit for Naaman's Rd. Rt 92W (right turn off the exit). Follow about 15 lights to Route 202 and turn left. Less than a mile down the road on the right is the Courtyard Marriott. We park all the way around back. It's about 30 minutes from Action Wheels.

Our beginner mountain bike ride is in the woods at Camden County College at 10am tomorrow morning. You can get a nice taste of mountain biking without the rocks and climbing. This group meets in the park right next to the Blackwood campus of the college. Rob is your group leader. For directions go to: http://www.camdencc.edu/campusdirections.htm

Too much rain

The extra nasty weather has left me with no option but to cancel our Sunday morning beginner ride. Sorry kids, but we don't want to damage the trail system. The next ride is our Tuesday night mtn ride at CCC. Grab your lights and join Adam at 7p for a fun night ride!

Crying foul

Due to the wet ground and the prediction of foul weather all morning, the Saturday 9am road ride has been canceled. Looks like some sun in the forecast for tomorrow, so get your indoor errands done today and get out and play in the alleged sunshine on SUNday!

Remember that at the shop today, we are giving away a Specialized EMT Multi Tool (value $20) with any purchase over $30. Get there early as it is while supplies last. This was an email special so you have to mention the offer to get the deal. One per customer, blah, blah, blah.

If the skies are clear in the morning, the Sunday 10am beginner mountain ride will go off as scheduled at Camden County College. Call or stop by the shop today for details- ask for Rob. 856.468.5115

Extreme wind

The forecast for tomorrow is showing extreme winds and gusts that could prove to be pretty dangerous for us on the road. It is with safety in mind that we have made the decision to cancel the Saturday road ride. Join us Sunday morning at 9am at the Brandywine for an intermediate mountain bike ride with lots of climbing or at 10am at Camden County College for a wooded beginner ride.

The Brandywine ride meets in the Courtyard Marriott parking lot off from Rt202. The CCC ride meets in the back lot of the park that is just past CCC.

Clothing Special!

For a limited time buy any full price winter piece (jersey, tight or jacket) in stock and get any in-stock shorts for half off!

Saturday, November 14, 2009

One down, one's a go

While the Brandywine ride is canceled due to wet trails, the CCC beginner mountain ride is ON at 10 am Sunday morning. Join Rob for some fun miles in the woods. Meet in the parking lot of the park just after Camden County College on Peter Cheeseman Rd. It's a guaranteed good time!!

Friday, November 6, 2009

Ride time change

The Saturday morning road ride starts at 9am as of this Saturday, November 7th.

Monday, October 26, 2009

Group rides

The weeknight rides will roll at 5pm both Monday and Thursday nights this week. This is the last week for the night road rides as we change the clocks this weekend.

Don't forget to join Adam at Camden County College on Tuesday nights at 7pm for a wooded night ride. This is a beginner/intermediate mountain bike ride that requires lights in addition to helmets, water, and flat fix kits.

The Saturday morning road ride will move to 9am starting the first weekend in November (the 7th). We meet in the shop parking lot for a 37 mile loop at either a B or C pace.

The Sunday morning beginner mountain bike ride will start this weekend (barring this crazy rainy weather). It's a 10am ride that meets in the park on Peter Cheeseman Road immediately after Camden Co College.

Call the shop for any further info about the rides. 856-468-5115

Thanks!

Ride cancellations

Both of the Sunday mountain bike rides have been canceled due to excessive rain. Cross your fingers for some sun this week, we hope to see you next weekend.

AW night ride

We're going to roll the Monday night ride right at 5:15 tonight. It will be a shortened loop, of course, to accommodate for the loss of daylight. The Thursday night ride will move to 5pm this week. Please be ready to go on time and have your blinkie light on your bike.

Monday, October 12, 2009

Today's ride, tonight's ride

The Monday night ride has been preempted by the morning holiday ride. So...there will not be an evening ride. Please join us on Thursday night at 5:15p for our next evening ride.

Thanks to all who came out to play this morning. We had a great turnout and a really nice 50 mile ride in moderately chilly temps. Everyone took a turn pulling the group as we cruised out to Parvin State Park and back. The next holiday ride will be Thanksgiving morning. Mark your calendar.

Join us this Sunday for the Covered Bridges Century at Tinnicum Park! We will gather near registration and roll out at 8am...

The Sunday mtn ride is canceled due to the fact that I can't be in two places at once. Thanks for understanding.

Sunday, October 11, 2009

Game on

Hi Kids! We're going to give the Brandywine a shot this morning. Grab your bike and your gear and meet me at the Courtyard Marriott on Route 202. We roll at 9am.

Tomorrow morning, we are riding the holiday 50 mile loop for Columbus Day. This is a 9am ride that leaves from the bike shop. Bring plenty of water and energy food. See you there.

Sunday, October 4, 2009

Weeknight rides

The Monday and Thursday night rides will still roll out at 5:30p this week. Distances will be shortened to accomodate the daylight (or lack thereof).

Finally- the Woods

We are going to head to the Brandywine this morning for a dirt ride. Looks like there might be a few mushy spots but that the conditions will be rideable. Meet us for a 9am start behind the Courtyard Marriott on Rte 202.

Ride totals- The Komen Ride to Vegas

For those who like numbers:

I rode 513 miles in 6 days
Burned 21,542 calories
Rode in 116 degree temps in Death Valley
Climbed almost 50,000 feet
Descended at 48, 50 and 55mph on 3 separate descents
Did my fastest century, riding 100 miles in just over 4 hrs- avg speed 24.5
Rode gradients of 16 and 18%
Rode at 8000 feet and was still breathing comfortably
Descended 4200 ft out of Yosemite covering 13 miles (passing a pick-up and a motorcycle) at 55mph

Things I learned:

The tarantulas crossed the road to get to the other side
There are coyotes on Mt Hamilton
Wine doesn't help when you can't sleep
A negative attitude breeds negative results
I feel the need for speed
I like to descend more than I like to climb and I LOVE to climb
After 500 miles on a bike, the saddle is less than comfy
You can share a tent with someone you don't know and have fun
You can dehydrate despite drinking 24 ounces every 15 minutes
People you don't know one day can save your butt the next
You don't have to fall just because you crossed wheels at 25mph
Sometimes taking a huge leap will be the best thing you could ever do

Thanks for all of your support!

Days 5 and 6 Komen ride to Vegas

We were up and on the road early to beat some of the afternoon heat in Death Valley. It was another 100 plus mile day and we ended up riding in 116 degree temps. There was one huge climb that took us up over 5000 feet. Luckily, the payback on the other side was another screaming descent. I love to climb but hadn't really gotten my legs here until Day 5. I felt great today and was finally able to settle in. Let me tell ya, 50 miles an hour on a bike...pretty darn cool.

Day 6 We were eating breakfast in the dark to get on the road early. Luckily the heat never got to yesterdays extreme highs. Though we were told 134 isn't uncommon. We completed our last leg to the Interbike Dirt Demo at about 2pm today. The crowds were huge and of course the champagne was flowing.

This was a major undertaking for me. I want to thank Mike Sinyard and all of the wonderful folks at Specialized for making this adventure possible. Also, thanks to everyone on the ride and back home for all of your encouragement. I couldn't have done this without you. A special thanks to Dan, for dragging and pushing me back in the many times I fell off. Kisses to the ChickTrain for all their hard work and determination and to Rachel for keeping us strong mentally when I just wanted to get off my bike. I made many new friends and found a toughness inside that I had no idea was there. What a week. I'm sorry it's over but I can't imagine having to get back in the saddle today!

Total distance that I rode: 513 miles in 6 days

Day 4 Komen ride to Vegas

We were on the road early this morning to try to avoid the terrible headwinds that this ride suffered with last year. Todays ride was 100 miles of almost entirely flat terrain with several screaming descents. We got a tremendous tailwind and the group was able to sustain speeds in the mid-thirties, yes 30s, for almost two hours. I rode Rebecca Rusch's wheel at 48 miles an hour down an awesome straight drop out of the 8000 ft of elevation that we suffered in yesterday. At those speeds, the miles ticked off like seconds on a clock. It was difficult to stay in the group at times but it would have been harder if I had let go. We finished the ride in about 4 hours with a 24.5 average. Even the Big Dogs were saying they had never and will likely never again ride such a fast hundred. I want to thank Dan from Kansas, Bob M from Speci and Aarons Pro racer Carmen DeLuzio for literally giving me the pushes I needed to stay in it. Thanks also to Rebecca for all her help these 4 days and for the 48mph wheel. This was without question the best ride of my life. I'm so glad I chose to take this challenge, at least until I wake up and have to get back in the saddle for 100 more tomorrow. And if I'm dreaming, please don't wake me up.

Day 1 of the Komen ride

I forgot that I neglected to post day one as there was no Internet service, so here goes. We left Specialized HQ and rode through town to get on a bike path. A bunch of miles in, the climbing began. It went on and on and on. We climbed Mt Hamilton and Quimby to the top at the Lick Observatory. My legs were cramping excessively but I beat it back with lots of salt and electrolytes. We saw a coyote running up a hill and several tarantulas on the road as we climbed and climbed. It was a tough 100 mile day and to top it off we tented out at Lake McSwain. Meager accomodations as expected but the showers were hot and masseuses were on hand to ease our pain. And there was lots of pain. Phil Keogan from the Amazing Race road and camped with us. A very nice guy and an excellent rider. That's it for now!

Days 2 and 3 of the Komen ride to Vegas

Day 2 was shorter but with lots of climbing. We racked up 70 miles on our way to Yosemite. The scenery is amazing and I will post lots of pix when I get home. Post-ride, we splashed in a freezing river before settling in to Housekeeping Camp. I'm not a camper but I am really enjoying the experience as everyone here is bike crazy. The camp itself left a lot to be desired but the trees and rock face made it all better.

Day 3- today we rode through Yosemite until the rangers grabbed our sag vans and told us we had to get out. Something about delaying traffic. We got back on bikes just outside the gates at Tioga Pass and railed a 13 mile descent at speeds up to 62mph. I didn't go over 55 so I wouldn't get into trouble at home. The corners weren't tight so excessive speed was easy and safe. We rode into Mammoth to spend the night and we ride to Lone Pine tomorrow. Another 100 mile loop. It should be more flat but likely very windy. I'll keep ya posted.

Total miles for me thus far 236. ;)

Weeknight Ride Time Change...

Our shop rides on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings will now leave promptly at 5:45 PM (Not 6 PM) due to the ever shortening days...

Tomorrow we ride

Today was all about settling in and getting ready. The time change is always a challenge but will work in my favor as I need to be up at 5a tomorrow. I splurged and had a massage today. Hopefully, the legs will be ready. We did a short loop to make sure everyones bikes were tuned and ready to go. It was 89 degrees but felt warmer. We took a tour of the Specialized Headquarters and as always I am amazed by their testing facilities. There are 32 riders. Among them are Phil Keogan from the Amazing Race, Rebecca Rusch- World Champion and journalists from Road magazine, Bicycle Retailer and Testride.com. There are 130 miles and 13,000 ft of climbing on my to-do list for tomorrow, so I'm off to bed. Wish you were here!

The adventure begins

Yesterday was travel day. The first leg of my flight was into DFW. I sat next to a career serviceman from Burlington NJ. I slept most of the flight but toward the end he said only 20 more hours to go. I asked where he was headed and he responded 'Iraq'. SFC Ken Lucas has served our country for 27 years. He said he might retire at 55 and start his own business. I told him about our bike shop. Ken owns a Specialized and said he had just gotten an email about the new Stumpjumper while he was home on R and R. He asked where I was headed and I told him to the Specialized Bicycles World HQ. I explained
that I was doing a charity bike ride from there to Las Vegas. My trip seemed a lot more daunting until I spoke to him. I wished him the best, thanked him for his service and said be safe. He smiled, said thanks that means a lot. He wished me luck and gave me a pearl of wisdom that means more coming from a man headed to the desert- "Hydrate". I realized then that this is only a 6 day bike ride, I will survive.

The shop ride is ON!

Now that it's daylight, things don't look so bad. We're going to head out on the shop road ride this morning at 8am.

Sketchy skies

Under questionable skies again today. As of 6am, I won't be heading to Philly but will decide on the AW ride closer to 7am. Make your own call for the Schuylkill Century but ride safe if you go!

Sunday, September 6, 2009

Leaderless mountain ride

The Sunday mountain ride will be leaderless for a few weeks as I prepare for a 600+ mile Susan G. Komen charity road ride from Morgan Hill, California to Las Vegas, Nevada. I appreciate your understanding.

Thanks,
Patty

Raining, not riding

The Saturday morning ride is canceled for rain. Hope to see you Monday night at 6pm!

Muddy Trails

We are going to avoid the trails at the Brandywine again this weekend. We are going to give them a little more time to recover before we get back out there and play. Thanks for understanding.

Sunday mtn ride

In an effort to let the trails heal, we are going to avoid the Brandywine this weekend. There has been a lot of rain and wind leading to muddy, damaged trails. Thanks for understanding.

Oh, it's on

I got a report from my source in Wilmington and the trails are fine. The Brandywine ride is on for 9am this morning.

Alternate mountain ride

There will be a ride at Camden County College at 10:30 this morning. They will be parking on the park side, near the soccer fields. The first lot on the left. If you are facing the college from the street, the park is to the left of the college. Have fun, kiddies!

It was supposed to be sunny, but...

It's raining quite a bit in Delaware and has started raining here, so we are going to cancel the mountain bike ride. I am not happy...

Memorial Day new loop, 2 groups

While the shop is closed for the holiday, we will be riding! Meet us at the bike shop for either a 50 mile B ride (17-19 mph average pace) or a 37 mile C ride (14-16 mph average pace). Both rides will roll at 9am. The 50 mile ride will likely be the PARVIN STATE PARK LOOP. I put that in caps so you will meet us at the shop and not ride in expecting to meet us part way into the old holiday loop. The 37 mile C ride will be the Saturday morning loop.

If we get the predicted bad weather, I will post a cancellation one hour before ride time. Thanks and I hope to see you in the morning.

Sunday, May 17, 2009

Mud and such

The rain we have had this past week once again keeps us from heading to the Brandywine this weekend. If you want to go mountain biking today, head to Camden County College as those trails absorb the water really well. We will try again next week...

There's been way, way, way too much rain this week to even think about riding in the Brandywine tomorrow. It is with deep regret that I must cancel the Sunday morning mountain bike ride. Don't worry, we will be in a drought soon enough and every ride will be on dusty trails.

As forecasted, the rain is coming down so the ride is canceled and you can go back to sleep!

Monday, April 6, 2009

We're gonna try it

Weather looks to be clearing so we are going to try to go tonight!!

Saturday, April 4, 2009

It's always something

I can hear the wind howling when I stand on the porch and the trees and really swaying. To err on the side of caution, I am canceling the Saturday morning ride. A posted weather advisory for strong winds said small vehicles should be careful so...

Saturday Morning Ride Time Change

Beginning this Saturday, April 4th, the Saturday morning ride starts at 8 AM.

Sunday, March 29, 2009

No woods ride today

The trails will be too soggy and we don't want to do damage, so the Brandywine ride has been canceled. Wahhhhh! It's not fair...

Saturday, March 28, 2009

Ugh! Rain...

The morning ride has been canceled due to rain. We will keep you posted on how the rain affects the mountain ride for tomorrow.

Saturday, March 7, 2009

Another day of rest

The trails are going to be soggy tomorrow so, once again, I am canceling the mountain ride to avoid doing trail damage. The trails at Camden County College drain well so if you are looking for rideable off-road terrain, that is a good place to go. Have fun!

Monday, March 2, 2009

Another Snow Day...

The shop will be closed today (Monday, March 2nd) due to the weather. We'll reopen tomorrow at 10AM. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Sunday, March 1, 2009

Snowed out again

There is a fine layer of ice under the snow this morning, so we are going to make the smart call and not ride the Brandywine today. Enjoy the white stuff!

Friday, February 27, 2009

Hey Ladies!!!

Great new warm weather styles from Terry have arrived. (Yes Toad, warm weather IS just around the corner,) so stop by to check them out while the selection is at its best.

Tuesday, February 24, 2009

6 degrees of cancellation

The Tuesday morning road ride is canceled due to the wind temperature being 6 degrees. It will be warm soon, it will be warm soon, it will be warm soon, it WILL be warm soon....

Sunday, February 22, 2009

Mtn ride rained out

My friend, Tom, who lives minutes from The Brandywine sent me an email to say that it rained overnight and the trails will be a muddy mess. We all want to go, I know, but in an effort to "leave no trace", we are canceling this mornings ride. So sorry. I'm sure CCC would be a nice alterntive.

Friday, February 20, 2009

Saturday rides

If the road ride does not get canceled due to real feel temps being below 25 degrees, it will be leaderless tomorrow as our leader is trying to heal his sore back. We thank you in advance for your cooperation in making the ride a group effort and not a runaway train. The mountain ride will likely proceed as scheduled despite the call for pretty low real feel temps. So meet us in the Brandywine at 9am for some fun in the woods.

Directions to Brandywine: Commodore Barry Bridge to 95 South, to 495 South to Route 92 West, Naamans Rd. Turn right onto 92. Follow thru about 15 lights until you cross Route 202. Then follow 92 as it turns left and heads down into the park. The lot is at the bottom of the hill on the left. We roll at 9.

Tuesday, February 17, 2009

Wind ch ch chill

I was looking forward to a nice day today but the stars did not align overnight and the real feel temp is 18 degrees. Therefore, it is my duty as a sensible person to tell you that the Tuesday morning ride has been canceled. It will be spring soon?

Monday, February 16, 2009

Tuesday night mountain ride

Grab your bike and your lights and head for Camden County College. Friend of the shop, John Berg, will be leading a ride at 7pm.

Sunday, February 8, 2009

Sunday mtn ride

I think the trails will be too messy to be sure we "Leave no trace". But if you think CCC will be okay, then go check it out. I know it is one of those places that is better when wet. I will not be there as I am recovering from a nasty cold. Whatever you choose, have a great day.

Friday, February 6, 2009

Warm but not safe

The road and mountain rides for Saturday have been officially canceled. Off-road would be a mess and damaging to the trails. On road, we still have much snow and ice on our roads despite the coming warm temps. Hopefully, we will get most of this melted and gone so we can resume riding our bikes. Enjoy the spring-like temps!

Wednesday, February 4, 2009

Snow Day!

Given that it's winter and there is a lot of snow on the ground this morning, the bike shop will be closed today. Enjoy the day and we will see you soon. -Patty

Tuesday, February 3, 2009

No Tuesday ride

Snow is falling, so there won't be a ride this morning. Man, I can't wait until we are just riding every week... Bring on spring.

Saturday, January 31, 2009

Still too yucky

I'm going to officially cancel the Sunday mtn ride at CCC. I know some of y'all will go anyway but I think it's going to be an icy mess. Use your best judgement...

Friday, January 30, 2009

A double downer

Sad to say that the icy, cold conditions have led me to cancel both the road and mountain rides for Saturday morning. Safety first.

Ride update

The Saturday road ride will be leaderless this week. Most of you have been on this ride many times and we will rely on you to help to keep the pace under control and make it an enjoyable ride for all. Thanks!

The Saturday mountain bike ride is at Brandywine at 9am. To get there:

Take the Commodore Barry Bridge into PA and get on 95 South. Pick up 495 South and then exit immediately onto 92 West, Naaman's Road (it's a right turn at the end of the exit ramp). Follow this thru about 15 lights and cross over Rte 202. Follow 92 as it turns left and goes down into the park. At the bottom of the hill, turn left into the parking lot. We roll at 9.

Enjoy the temperate weather!

Thursday, January 22, 2009

Try before you buy!

Just a reminder...if you are looking for a new ride, but just aren't sure what you'd like, we have quite a few demo bikes available for testing:

2009 Specialized Epic Experts, Stumpjumper FSR Elites, Stumpjumper FSR Comp 29ers and 2008 Enduro Expert SL's...

And for the roadies we have a few 2009 Tarmac Experts and Roubaix Experts.

Mountain ride tonight

Join John Berg at Camden County College for a 6:30pm mountain bike ride. You will need lights for this one. Please be early as the ride rolls on time. It will be an easy pace but a good distance. Grab your lights (remember to charge them!) and have fun.

Snowy roads

Hi Kids- when I drove home last night the back roads were still covered with snow and ice, so I am canceling the Tuesday morning road ride. Cross your fingers for sun so we can get some clear roads for the weekend!

It pains me to do this again, but...

Both Saturday morning rides (road and mountain) are canceled due to bitter, cold wind temperatures. At 9am, it will feel like 2 degrees. I really want to ride and you do, too, but if I don't cancel, we will both show up and freeze our toes off.

Join me Saturday, January 10th, at 9am for a ride in the Brandywine. From NJ, cross the Commodore Barry Bridge and get on 95S. Follow to 495S and exit right away onto Rte92, Naaman's Rd. Follow thru about 15 lights until you cross over Rte 202. Stay on 92 as it turns left and heads down into the park. The parking lot is on the left at the bottom of the hill. From the shop, it takes about 30 minutes. Please be ready to ride at 9! Rain cancels and any cancelation will be posted here by 8am.

Too cold for the road but....

Hey kids- the New Year's Day ride is being canceled due to a "feels like" temperature of 14 degrees. If you have a fat tire steed, feel free to join us at Camden County College for an off-road fun-fest at noon. The woods are way warmer so that 14 will feel like at least 25...
